Coaches Byran Stelling and Doug Baer are proud of the team that is rebuilding with new additions in the freshman and sophomore bracket who show great promise and the veteran juniors and seniors who have established solid performance records.

Highlights: Josh Heitzman (K) pinned Keaton Mills (S) and Braedan Graika (K) pinned Trevor Coffman (S).  Kamiak’s Ryan James and Kole Engblom added to the tally with major decisions.

It was Senior Night at Jackson High School as Jackson hosted cross town rival Archbishop Murphy in the Battle of Mill Creek.  The team’s seniors and their parents were introduced by Jackson head coach Gustavo Anaya prior to the beginning of the dual.  Once the dual started, the two teams battled back and forth through the night.  With one match left to go, Jackson was holding on to a slim 38-36 lead.  Jackson was able to lock up the victory with a pin in the final match with 41 seconds left in the first round to defeat Archbishop Murphy 44-36.  Click on image for photo gallery. After defeating Edmonds-Woodway the night before, Kamiak went on to defeat Mariner 51-16 leaving them in first place in Wesco south with an undefeated season in the league. In the last match of the evening, Austin Bentley of Kamiak starts his lift on Joe Nelson of Mariner in the 160 lb. class and as the referee signals the pin at 1:38 in the 1st period of this match, Kamiak wins the meet over their rival.

Originally known as the “Pit” because of the raised wooden bleachers that surrounded all four sides of the court, the timeworn facility opened its doors on Oct. 14, 138. In its heyday, the gym could seat 1,200 fans, said Mark Albertine, Snohomish School District athletic director. But after a building remodel in 1984 when the east and south side bleachers were eliminated for additional classrooms, the gym’s capacity was reduced to 600. The basketball and volleyball programs moved to the present main gym, with a capacity of 2,000 in 1983. The wrestling team, which began competing in the Old Gym in 1959, continued to cal  it home until Jan. 21. The gym will continue hosting freshman basketball games through the rest of this year’s season and will be used temporarily as a library until the facility is demolished in 2012, as part of the school’s modernization project paid for by bond dollars.
