This was an up tempo game from the start as both Glacier Peak and the Bellevue Wolverines were running up and down the court. Â Glacier Peak started quickly and and built a 16-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. Â Jack Bonner led the Grizzlies scoring in the first quarter with 6 of his team high 16. Â Bellevue came roaring back in the second quarter and outscored the Grizzlies 23-14 to take a 34-30 lead at the half. Â Bellevue’s Aaron Bright and John Ahrens scored 7 and 6 points respectively in the second quarter.

The scoring slowed in the third quarter but Bellevue was able to increase their lead to 48-40 and for a little bit looked to be taking control of the game. Â In the fourth quarter, Glacier Peak wrestled control of the game away from the Wolverines. Â Jack Bonner hit three 3-pt shots in the quarter to lead his team’s scoring in the quarter. Â With 1:18 left in the game, the score was knotted up at 55-55. Â In the next 57 seconds, the Grizzlies were able to go on a 6-0 run to take a 61-55 lead.

The Glacier Peak Grizzlies, first in their district, seem a good match for the Bellevue Wolverines, who finished 2nd in their district, but with more wins in their season at 22-3 over the Grizzlies 19-5 season.

The Grizzlies ended the quarter strong at 16-11 over the Wolverines, but the Wolverines are fighting back ending the half with a 4-point lead over the Grizzlies, 34-30. By 2 minutes left in the 2nd, the Grizzlies were down by 9 but were able to make up some ground in the final minutes.

The Grizzlies are in it for the prize – 4th place, and leading the charge is Jack Bonner with 7 points in the first half and Tanner Southard with 3 assists. At 50% shooting with 11 points off the bench for the Grizzlies, the second half of this game should prove exciting!

After losing their opening round game to Enumclaw, who plays for the championship tonight, Meadowdale bounced back winning two in a row to stay alive and to play the Franklin Quakers in their final round game. Up by 8 points at the half, the Meadowdale Mavericks kept the momentum going to get their third tournament win and to take 5th place overall in the 2010 State 3A Basketball Championships! The Franklin Quakers ended the season in 8th place overall.

One key contributor to this game, in terms of points, was Connor Hamlett, scoring exactly half, 33, of the Mavs’ total 66 points (18 of those points scored in the first half of the game). Â Hamlett was on his game today with an overall shot percentage of 82% and grabbing 10 rebounds. Â Huge contributions from Sam Werner as well, racking up 13 points on the scoreboard throughout the game and 50% shooting. Â Leading Meadowdale in assists were Riley Neff-Warner and Sam Werner, each credited with 3 assists.

The Quakers fought the whole way though, giving the Mavs some good competition. Anrio Adams and Leon Nelson led Franklin with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Though outscoring the Mavs in the 3rd quarter, the Quakers couldn’t establish any sort of sizeable lead during the game.

Overall, this was a good matchup. By the end, the Mavs shot 56% for the game; the Quakers, 51%.

Although the game ended with a 10-point win for Kennedy, this was a very close game. After the 1st quarter, the Kennedy Lancers were up 15-14 on the Shorecrest Scots. Shorecrest’s defense was able to slow the Lancers’ scoring in the 2nd quarter, giving up only 5 points.  Meanwhile, Shorecrest’s offense continued to score and they took a 25-20 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Lancers cut into the Scots’ lead in the 3rd and by the end of the quarter, the Scots were holding on to a 32-30 lead. In the 4th quarter however, Kennedy overtook Shorecrest by scoring 17 while holding Shorecrest to just 5 points.

Brianne Lasconia led the Scots with a game high 15 points and 9 rebounds. The Lancers’ Allie Madison led her team with 12 points and Aminah Williams led the Lancer rebounding efforts by pulling in 9 rebounds.

Unfortunately, this loss ends Shorecrest’s 2010 tournament but we congratulate them on a successful season. Kennedy moves on to play Seattle Prep, who defeated Prairie earlier in the day.
