What do Meadowdale, Jackson, Bellingham, Edmonds-Woodway, Kamiak, Shorecrest, Snohomish, Lynnwood, Glacier Peak, Shorewood, Cedarcrest and Burlington-Edison all have in common? THEY ALL MADE STATE with their dance/drill/flag/hip-hop teams. It is the first time in eight years that all the competing teams qualified for state from the district competition by scoring 210 or above. State Dance will be held March 26th and 27th at the Sun Dome. So out of all these teams, 4 1st place trophies were awarded for different dance categories. Kamiak for Kick/Show, Shorecrest for Hip-Hop, Meadowdale for Dance and Edmonds-Woodway for Military/Pom. Taking 1st place in the 4A Drill Down was Cricket Dekerlegand from Edmonds-woodway followed by Ashley Peterson with 2nd from Kamiak and Linsay Smullin with third from Snohomish. In the 2A/3A Drill down, from Cedercrest ,1st and 2nd place went to Emilie Humberstone and Lauren Ellsworth and from Shorecrest with 3rd place Ally Pickrel. Click on Image for photo gallery. It look at the end of the 1st quarter that Glacier Peak was going to run away with the game with the score 14-4, but then GP started running into foul trouble. Lynnwood won the game 48 to 40 with 24 of those points coming from Free Throws as compared to Glacier peak’s 10 points from Free Throws. High shooters for Lynnwood were Mokun Fajemisin 18 and Laycee Hill 15 with over half of thiose points coming from free throws. High shooter for Glacier Peak went to Katie Hawkins with 12 points. Meadowdale took the lead from the start and just kept building on it to defeat the Scots 45 to 33. The Scots did rally in the 4th to close the gap to within a few points, but with about 3 minutes left, the mavericks took off again to widen the spread. It was a close game throughout the first half with both teams trading scores. The first quarter ended with both team tied with 10 points. Six of Lynnwood’s 10 first quarter points were scored on two 3-point shots. In the second quarter, it was Shorecrest who scored 6 of their 10 second quarter points on two three point shots. At the half, Shorecrest took a slim 20-18 lead into the locker room. In the third quarter, Shorecrest’s offense was able to take control of the game and outscored Lynnwood 18-12 in the quarter giving them a 38-30 lead. This proved to be too large of a lead for Lynnwood to overcome as Shorecrest was able to hit on 8 of their 16 free throws in the quarter as well as scoring 4 FG’s in the quarter giving them the 54-44 win.
Shorecrest will next play in the state 3A tournament in the Tacoma Dome being held between March 10th and the 13th. Lynnwood will play Glacier Peak on Saturday March 6 at 8:00pm at Glacier Peak High School to earn a place in the state tournament. Glacier Peak defeated Ferndale in overtime 57-55. Glacier Peak Defeats Ferndale 57-55 in Overtime … 03.04-2010
It took some extra time but Glacier Peak was able to beat Ferndale to stay in the District 1 tournament. Katie Hawkins led the Grizzlies with 18 points. At half time, Glacier Peak took a 26-18 lead into the locker room but it was Ferndale who came out to dominate the third quarter by outscoring Glacier Peak 19-6 to take a 37-32 lead. Mackenzie Nicolaas and Madison Hart each scored 6 points for Ferndale in the third with Hart scoring all six of hers at the free throw line. In the fourth quarter, Glacier Peak was able close the gap but were down 43-45 with 12 seconds left in the game. Glacier Peak’s Becca Smith then went to the free throw line for two shots with a chance to tie the game if she made them both. Smith sank the two free throws and Glacier Peak forced the game into overtime. In the overtime period, Glacier Peak was able to outscore Ferndale 10-12 to win the game.
Glacier Peak moves on in the tournament to play Lynnwood for the second place spot in the district and a place in the state 3A tournament on Saturday March 6 at 8:00pm. Lynnwood lost to Shorecrest in the district title game 54-44 on Thursday night.
